BMW have released some images and specs of a one-off M5 CSL, a little something to tribute the 25 year milestone of the M5.
The 5.0 litre block from the ‘normal’ M5 is used, however M-Division stroke it out to 5.5 litres and add some interesting tidbits like a carbon-fibre intake and a secondary oil-cooler. Although I cannot give you a specific power output, expect it to be ridiculously huge; something well over 400kw.
The M5 CSL’s performace also gets an extra tickle from a specific, expensive (read carbon-fibre-dominated) diet. The roof, front seats and various other parts all get the big CF treatment. The rear seats get turfed. So… the bottom line figure drops by around 50kg.
I always thought the CSL stands for Coupe Sports Lightweight (or whatever that originally sounds like in German). Sports and Lightweight I can definately see here, but Coupe? Granted, you literally cannot seats any more than one friend, but what do you do with those two extra swinging things?
Irony aside, good work BMW. This is what a great carmaker is all about.
