Bob Lutz throws down the Cadillac CTS-V gauntlet

In a very honourable and valiant gesture, GM powerbroker Bob Lutz has invited all comers in a vehicular battle of performance.

After inviting anyone to reigister as a competition against the 2009 Caddy CTS-V, 130 people have signed up to the cause. However, GM will be picky with who comes through, with a final list expected to be somewhere between five and ten participants.

This, GM says, is for the cause of equality, so they can get the right balance of competition on a level playing field.

The  supercharged 6.2 litre V8 that powers the CTS-V is loosely based upon the LS9 from the Corvette ZR1, so power is definately not this issue. How the whole packages comes together may be though, as the Caddy can expect some stout competition in the form of BMW’s m5, Merc’s E63 and Audi’s (R?)S6.

The end results of the competitors AND the competition itself should be very interesting for GM’s supposed world-(especially-Germany)-beating sedan. I’ll keep you posted.
