I am a massive fan of concise, smart cars that are built for a specfic purpose and doing it well. Compared to the multitudes of vehicular options out there that are a jack of all trades and a master of none, nothing makes me happier to see an honest, trustworthy car built for a single purpose.
To me, the Twingo RS 133 Cup seems to be such a car. Much akin to the all-time favourite 205 Gti, the hotted-up Twingo is built for a single purpose; to make driving a thoroughly enjoyable and exhilarating experience.
A Porsche 911 for the everyman, Renault have been very selective in what stays and goes in the 133 Cup. Uneccesary ‘creature comforts’ for softcocks all get thrown out the window, and good bloody riddance. Air conditioning and automatic wiper/headlight operations are all absent from the 133 Cup.
The benefits of such a move are almost endless. For starters, the starting cost is reduced by £700 in the British market. Handling, performance, efficiency and longevity also increase noticably, along with the bulge in your hip-pocket.
‘Oooooh’, I hear you say. ’A gutted out hatchback. How fantastic.’ But, this little Twingo aint done yet. Along with the super-smart omissions, Renault have added some great little specs to the hot-hatch.
The Cup specification gets a special chassis setup, which includes a 4mm lowered ride height and 10% stiffer springs all-round. The 17-inch aluminium alloys you see are wrapped in Continental Sport Contact3 195/40 tyres.
