Always at the epicentre of development and performance related news, the ‘Ring lap time has been long regarded as the best criterion for guaging a car’s performance. Obscure, low volume supercar maker Gumbert have unleashed their Apollo Sport upon the ‘Ring with some very strong results: 7:11.57.
Blitzing the Dodge Viper SRT/10 ACR’s time by eleven seconds, the Apollo’s time also embarrases the likes of the Maserati MC12 (7:24.3), Pagani Zonda F Clubsport (7:24.7) and Ferrari Enzo (7:25.3). Only the Radical SR8, powered by a 2.6 litre, 10,500 rpm V8 and weighing only 650 kilos betters this time (6:55).
The Apollo Sport is not yet officially released, but the limited production run will short and sharp. It is powered by a 515 kW 4.2 litre Audi-sourced V8, and boasts a tubular chromoly frame chassis, along with a choice of either fibreglass or carbon-fibre panels. The 2nd option keeps the total weight of the Apollo down to 1,100 kg.
