Subaru’s domestic showroom-floors have now been graced by one of the quickest and meanest Impreza’s yet; the latest STI Spec-C.
Subaru Technica International have left few stones unturned in turning the heat up on the limited-run model, with all efforts striving for increased performance. The ballbearings in the turbocharger have been optimised to reduce friction to a minimum, and have been coupled to a reworked ECU.
The Spec-C engine output is increased to 227 Kw and 422 Nm, delivering power in a smoother, more elastic way than the boggo STI. Special attention has been also been paid to the chassis and overall weight reductions. lighweight 18-inch wheels, a smaller, lighter battery and lightweight aluminium bonnet and laminar glass are all adopted for the 900 units.
Dampers, spring rates and stabilisers have all be recalibrated for the sake of increased performance and agility. A Torsen LSD replaced the mechanical type, and Bridgestone Ponteza wrap up the new 18-inchers. Along with a series of chassis reinforcements, these changes will make the Spec-C a tight little unit.
