Alfa Australia releases more details and prices for MiTo

With the Mito now on showroom floors, Alfa Romeo have let the details cats out of the bags, giving us an insight into  the MiTo’s prices and trim levels.

The cheapest way of getting into the cute, 3-door only hatch will set you back a recommended $31,490, not including costs like statuatory and delivery charges. At that price, the MiTo comes fairly well equipped.

A stylishly and genrously appointed cabin includes the usual suspects of the class, like trip computer, cruise control, air conditioning, electric windows, boot release and remote central locking.

Tasty additions like a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a six-speaker sound system and Alfa’s DNA driving system compliment a well designed interior.

The next purchase option is the Mito Sport. Weighing in at $37,490 plus statutory charges and delivery, the biggest change is under the bonnet. Power output for the same 1.4 litre turbocharged block is raised from 88kw in the base model up to 114kw, giving it some extra entertainment and punch throughout the rev range.

Brembo brakes are also included, giving the MiTo Sport some good stopping power. Mechanicals aside, the purchase of the Sport will also get you a handful of other goodies: Blue&Me Bluetooth telematics with a USB connection, climate control air conditioning, sports bumpers, spoiler and pedals, rear parking sensors, Brembo Brakes, auto wipers, lights and interior mirror as well as front fog lights are thrown in for the costlier model.

The Alfa Romeo MiTo has scored 5 stars in the NCAP crash testing in Europe, so we should see a similar score in Australia’s domestic crash testing.

Alfa Romeo claims fuel consumption levels of 6.1 l/1ookm for the base model, and 6.5l/100km for the Sport.

Alfa’s attractive little package certainly looks good, but much of it’s success may come down to how it drives. The infinitely entertaining and rewarding Mini Cooper will give Alfa an uphill battle, but the Italian does provide some good value for money in comparison with others.

Alfa Romeo claims the MiTo is, in ‘Dynamic’ mode, a real driver’s car, and will be a genuine contender for this competitive sector. They made a fantastic hatch in the Alfasud that Australia has seen few examples of, so we know that they can do it.
